Choosing Concentric Counselling with Vicky Bellman
Choosing the right counsellor for you is a big decision, and one that I don't underestimate. If you've found the website and this blog post, it may mean that you're considering me as your counsellor. If you haven't chosen a counsellor before, how do you know you're making the right choice?
The therapeutic relationship is a unique one, and it's worth taking the time to consider whether we will work well together. In your counselling sessions, you may explore some challenging themes, experiences and feelings, and you may feel vulnerable. It is important that you feel safe and respected as we work together. Will you feel encouraged and supported in our work? Will you feel confident in me? Do you find me friendly, genuine and empathic? These are important questions, and I hope the answer is yes. It takes time to build trust and intimacy in a relationship but, until then, I invite you to trust your instincts. Is my tone warm? Do you feel cared for? It may sound simple, but that's a good place to start, and will help us to establish and develop a relationship in which you feel heard, and understood.
The hardest step is the first step - to make the first contact. But, in doing so, we will quickly begin to establish whether we're a 'fit'. We can then go on to arrange a free initial consultation. Again, this is an opportunity for you to get more of a feel for me and my work, to ask any questions you have. I hope we'll work well together.
